The URBAN ARTS Project: The URBAN ARTS Project is an innovative after-school program being offered to the students of Morton Ranch Junior High School. The project supports student academic achievement through the arts and the K.I.S.D. Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Program. The URBAN ARTS PROJECT is a collaboration between Katy ARTreach and inner-city Houston Arts group URGEWORKS STUDIOS to bring professional teaching artists and dancers to Morton Ranch Junior High. The URBAN ARTS PROJECT is teaching the students how to use the positive power of street dance, spoken word, and RAP along with digital media, studio recording and graphic design to express their views on the world. The 14 –week project culminates with a campus exhibition and student presentation. Katy and Houston area businesses or community members are being asked to please support the project by making a donation to Katy ARTreach URBAN ARTS Project at MRJH, or volunteer to serve as an art mentor after-school, call 281-392-5341 for more information. |
